what we have arranged

so far we have arranged a day to fit our groups and helpers time, we have arranged for friday to start doing some of our filming , as we have got all the charters we want sorted. e.g. we are having a little girl first, we got this little girl from the younger years, she is in year 9. we also had a audition of 6 girls and picked one out of the six, by giving them a little play to read out so we could test there voice tones and confidence, we also tried to pick a girl that suited our older character most so they looked alike. we have also been thinking about costumes and dresses for these characters. we have been looking in charity shops for something good and cheap but still however not made up our mind. but however we have discussed a few location for example we have thought about london, so somewhere busy and popular also we have discussed about having it in a calm and romantic place such as the beach so for example brighton or bournemouth

what we've done so far

so far we have story boarded our ideas, auditioned 6 young girls for the part of the young girl and made our choice, we have also looked into locations, firstly we thought about doing it in london, somewhere central, however we looked into what locations would be appropriate for a romantic setting, we thought the beach would be perfect as its a great peacefully settings and fits well with the song as it goes well with sanctuary vienna. we have also discussed the connotations within the video, we feel that the man in video should alway be above the women so the he's sense of protectivness towards her can be conveyed. we have looked at album covers and inspirations for the character, we have also brained stormed story lines.

our first draft of the story line

for a while we have been thinking about what the narrative would be for our music video, after brainstorming some initial ideas and casting the roles we now have a solid story line that we can translate to a story board.

Its starts off with a young girl who is 17 years old, who is lonely and sitting on an abandoned carriage on a train apart from a young man dressed all in black who is watching over her protectively from a couple of rows behind. Her make up has run down her face to show she has been crying. She has a bag full of her clothes which she clutches tightly to. She closes her eyes and leans back slightly. as her eyes open, we are then taken to a flashback of her as a little girl.

The little girl is then shown lying down on her parents bed. She sits upright looks around and notices her mothers dresser. she sits down looks into the mirror and then proceeds to slather her face in her mothers make up. slowly then she opens the drawer and finds a bottle of pills, prescribed to her mother, holding them up to the light looking confused, she opens the bottle and swallows a few. her mother then appears at the door looking tired, noticing the girl, she comes in and smiles at her make up covered face giving her a hug, then she notices the opened bottle of pills lying on her bed. she becomes erratic tearing the room about searching for it. The girl sits there awkwardly among all this chaos, with her head down. the next shot we see is her leaving at the crack of dawn weighed down with bags.

by the end of this scene as we watch her running her away on the line, ' when will you realize vienna waits for you' this is at the end of the first chorus, showing she has gotten in too deep and is running away to find something better.

This is our group blog for our media a2 coursework

Here we will post our ideas, developments and inspirations in our pursuit to create a music video for the track Vienna by billy Joel. we decided to work together as a pair after a successfully creating a short film for our sumer task. we also though it would be good as a group would be hard to rely on individual members. we chose Billy Joel after looking at a selection of tracks from various genres, and deciding that the song Vienna, had the most potential to create our ideas into a narrative performance based video.

We decided on out song after looking through and listening to Anusha's itunes, as she had wide scale selection of different type of music, from RnB, Motown, Rock&Roll, punk, Rap to what we decided on which we have identified as a Ballad.

Our first step was to discuss general ideas of what we would want and what we didn't. at first we were apprehensive as we had different views and taste. But we found a common ground when we looked closely at the lyrics of the songs and we realised that the video should not reflect our personal taste. as we wanted to think outside the box, it would also be neutral.
